The department of geology is looking for a research associate PdD position Geophysics, Physics, Mechanical or Computational Engineering
Part-time position (75 %), Start-date: At the earliest possible date.
We are seeking an excellent MSc graduate in Geophysics, Physics, Mechanical or Computational Engineering with a strong background in computational methods, and rock mechanics or materials science. This position requires also strong interest or experience in experimental rock mechanics.
The successful candidate conducts flyer plate experiments and dynamic tensile tests on rocks in close cooperation with Fraunhofer EMI in Freiburg. The obtained mechanical data will be implemented in material models for numerical simulation. Numerical simulations will be performed for validation of the material models.
The position is part of the DFG-funded project: "Strain-rate dependent brittle deformation of rocks during impact cratering: Linking mechanical data and microstructure"
The overall aim of this project is to understand the role of strain rate on brittle deformation of rocks in the range from quasi-static to highly dynamic conditions and to associate it with corresponding microstructures within the deformed rock.
The application should include the following documents: a letter of motivation, a CV, a list of publications (if available), certificates of the university degree (with grades) and transcripts of record, master/diploma certificate (with grades) and the contact details of at least two referees.
The position is initially limited for 36 months. The salary will be determined in accordance with TV-L E13. We are particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here.
