To create and calibrate a numerical sediment transport model. To evaluate and analyze the model performance.

The goal of the course is to learn the development and applications of numerical hydromorphological models. In small groups, the students have to develop and calibrate a hydromorphological model based on physical experiments. Each group will work on their individual experiment. Close guidance by the lecturer will be offered as well as discussions with other groups. The experiments cover the following basic morphological processes: - Erosion and riverbed armoring - Sedimentation - Grain sorting in curves After a general introduction to numerical morphological modelling and the applied software, the necessary steps to develop a model are lectured. Also methods to pre and post process data and simulation results are explained.

Basic knowledge of hydromorphological processes.

Teaching and learning methods

In the seminar the topics of numerical sediment modelling are explained and challenges discussed. In small groups, the students set up their own model with an examplary case. The progress and the results in each group are discussed interactively.
