Dr. Shiva P. Pudasaini joins the TUM Landslides Research Group

We welcome Dr. Shiva P. Pudasaini to our Landslide Research Group at the Technical University of Munich. Dr. Pudasaini has been awarded a Visiting Professorship at TUM since May, 2020. He is a world leading scientist in advanced modelling, simulation and application of complex multi-phase mass-flows, including landslides, debris flows, rock avalanches, and gravity flows impacting reservoirs and other natural hazards with great international reputation. With a sharp understanding of multi-disciplinary fields, he has developed several cutting-edge-theories, solving some long-standing engineering and environmental challenges. Many of his research papers are highly cited.  Dr. Pudasaini is a graduate from TU Kathmandu, Nepal, and TU Kaiserslautern, and obtained his PhD from TU Darmstadt, Germany, and worked at the Institute of Geosciences, University of Bonn since 2006. He is a distinguished reviewer of over 70 highly prestigious international multidisciplinary journals in physical, mathematical and engineering sciences, and funding agencies including NSF, ANR, DFG, NWO, FWF, SNSF, NERC, FNR and CONICYT. Dr. Pudasaini has secured several national/transnational research fundings as project leader mostly based on the implementation of innovative-novel ideas he pioneered. Together with internationally leading colleagues, he has fundamentally contributed to the development of r.avaflow, a GIS-based opensource software tool for the simulation of multi-phase, multi-physics cascading mass-flows (https://avaflow.org/), providing advanced solutions to problems related to engineering, environmental, geomorphological, planning and hazard mitigation. He has organized and delivered lectures in different International Schools to post/graduates and has delivered more than 150 presentations with 67 of them being invited talks. He is the author of the standard book “Avalanche Dynamics: Dynamics of Rapid Flows and Dense Granular Avalanches”, and has published more than 60 articles in international scientific journals of high reputation on the relevant subject, and cited more than 2000 times with h-index 26 in Web of Science, Cited Reference Search.
