New publication on lahars from Cotopaxi volcano

Theresa Frimberger recently published a paper in ESPL together with Daniel Andrade (Instituto Geofísico, Quito), Samuel Weber and Michael Krautblatter.

The Cotopaxi is an active volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes known for its potential to produce very large and destructive syneruptive lahars. In our article, we developed a generic Voellmy-Salm approach (software RAMMS debris flow) across different scales of high-magnitude lahars and showed how it can be used to anticipate future syneruptive lahars. The study has been conducted as part of the project RIESGOS, funded by the BMBF. The paper is open access and available at https://doi.org/10.1002/esp.5056
