New paper about uncertainty quantification in 3-D geo-modeling of clastic sedimentary geologic environments

We are pleased to announce that the research work entitled "Uncertainties in 3-D stochastic geological modeling of fictive grain size distributions in detrital systems" has been published in the Special Issue on “Applications in 3D geoscience modeling” of the peer-reviewed journal Applied Computing and Geosciences.

The present study adapts the geo-modeling framework to estimate the 3-D lithological composition of detrital systems in order to incorporate uncertainties from imprecise input data. A simulation experiment addresses this adaptation, as well as the ability of the concepts of entropy and joint entropy as uncertainty quantification measures. The main findings of the present study have great potential for providing robust uncertainty information about predictions of fictive grain size distributions in the 3-D space of detrital systems, which ultimately strengthens the decision-making process for practical decision purposes.
